Hoot Poster – Summer 2017
Every August, Bison Bookbinding & Letterpress owners Carly James and Kevin Nelson journey to the Catskill Mountains of New York for The Summer Hoot, a bi-annual music festival organized by dear friends Mike and Ruthy of The Mammals. The Hoot takes place at the Ashokan Center, New York’s oldest outdoor environmental education center.
Nestled among creeks, fields, animals, and other historically significant structures lives a 19th century print shop. It had been decades since the print shop was used as such when Carly and Kevin paid their first visit to restore the Central Type Foundry proofing press in 2014. Now, each Summer Hoot, they produce a limited edition art poster over the course of the festival, sharing the process and studio with festivalgoers.
The Summer 2017 Hoot Poster is available here in limited quantities — only three left! Each poster is numbered and signed by the artist. Due to the handmade nature of the printing process, each poster will look slightly different in color and texture.
